Organisers OC Sport Pen Duick are officially inviting entries for the 51st edition of La Solitaire du Figaro with the publication of the Notice of Race.

Raced in the latest generation foiling Figaro Beneteau 3 and recognised as the unofficial world championships of solo offshore racing, the race is fiercely competitive. In 2020, as many as 30 skippers are expected on the start line in Saint-Brieuc in north-west France come the 30 August. This year’s edition will include three classic stages of 500 miles or more, and one final 24-hour sprint, with the course taking just under a month to complete.

Contested mainly by professional ocean racers, La Solitaire is also open to ambitious young Rookies, or ‘Bizuths’ who will line up to test their metal against some of the world’s best offshore sailors.

The race is scored/ranked by totalling the elapsed time of each boat on each leg to see who has the shortest time for all four legs. A Rookie and General ranking will both be established for each stage, as well as for the overall race.

Frenchman Yoann Richomme took a convincing win in last years’ race after a total of 14 days, 2 hours and 20 minutes of racing. Brit Alan Roberts topped the international rankings when he crossed the finish line in this afternoon in 27th place, while Benjamin Schwartz took the top rookie prize, after a remarkable first-time participation which saw him finish 6th overall.
